Coach Dror
is a highly competent and experienced runner with many year’s worths of “quality” racing. He is here to help you maximize your running potential. The workouts are designed to assist runners of all levels & abilities while maintaining a “fun” camaraderie. I strive to help you reach YOUR running goals – from simple fitness to serious competitive racing.
Coach Dror Vaknin was born in Israel and moved to the US in 1979. He began his running career in 8th grade at Lakeside High School in 1981. After moving to Ft. Myers, FL in 1983, he helped Ft. Myers High to win two cross country state titles and won individual Fla. High School cross country title in 1985.
After graduating from high school, Dror continued his running career at the Univ. of South Florida. He was the first male runner in the Sun Belt to make the all-conference team all four years in cross country. In 1988, he won Sun Belt Conference individual title and led USF to their team title under coach Bob Braman. Dror was also the first USF athlete to qualify for NCAA Cross Country and Track championships. He still holds the USF 10K record at 29:25.
After college Dror competed professionally for Rebook and won numerous road races and setting PR’s. In 1993 he finished 2nd in the world Jewish Games Half Marathon in Israel. In 1994, he set most of his track PRs in 3K, 5K and 10K. 1995 began Dror’s marathon quest as he set his PR and qualified for the 96′ US Olympic Marathon in Charlotte, NC. He finished 74th in the trials with a time of 2:33. He followed that up with a double gold medal win in the ½ marathon and 10K in the 1997 World Jewish Games in Israel.
His coaching career began in 1991 when he graduated from USF and became an assistant coach at the University of South Florida. He then began Progressive Training Team in 1992 with former USF NCAA Champion Jon Dennis. In 1994 Dror began coaching the Leukemia Society TNT group. Finally, in 2000, Dror left USF and began coaching with Jerry Slaven at the University of Tampa.
